Description

This grand scene was engraved by Paul Girardet after Hippolyte Victor Valentin Sebron's painting and published by M. Knoedler. The view looks down Broadway from between Spring and Prince Street. The Prescott Hotel, at the corner of Spring Street, was opened in 1852. Next to it, a building bearing the name Ceinese Buildings [Chinese] later becomes the infamous Buckley's Minstrel Hall. The lively street scene is filled with people and carriages. A fire truck and firemen add to the traffic confusion in the scene. This is a proof state without title and margins have been trimmed to between 1 and 1 1/2" all around. Professional restoration along a crease at center and backed on an archival 1-ply rag board. Very clean and crisp.
